North Carolina Court of Appeals Upholds Summary Judgment in Favor of Town

The North Carolina Court of Appeals upheld a finding of summary judgment in favor of a Town in a matter in which a former police officer claimed his rights were violated when he was terminated after filing a worker’s compensation claim. Ms. Hartzog successfully argued that the Town had shown legitimate, nondiscriminatory reasons for terminating Plaintiff’s employment after having conducted a lengthy internal affairs investigation which revealed that the officer had not been truthful in statements made to his superiors.
