Summary Judgment Obtained for Police Chief and Officer

Katherine Barber-Jones obtained summary judgment for a law enforcement officer and a police chief on claims that the officer unconstitutionally stopped and arrested an out-of-state driver.  The driver had an expired out-of-state driver’s registration, but turned out to be a wanted person in another state that had requested full extradition. The plaintiff, a former attorney, alleged that the officer had violated his constitutional rights in stopping him, arresting him, and completing his post-arrest paperwork. By convincing the court to grant summary judgment on the plaintiff’s claims, Katherine Barber-Jones vindicated the officer’s job performance and the police chief’s role in training her.
