Attorneys
Katherine (“Katie”) Barber-Jones’ legal practice is focused on representing and advising employers, public entities, and educators. Katie’s clients have included public officials, cities and towns, and colleges and universities. Katie has successfully defended clients in a variety of civil litigation matters, including alleged constitutional and civil rights violations, breach of contract, negligence, and general liability matters. Katie has litigated in North Carolina state and federal courts, including the North Carolina Business Court, and has handled appeals to the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of North Carolina, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
In representing clients, Katie employs nuanced defenses and works to go beyond typical solutions or rote arguments to provide thorough and innovative legal advocacy and advice. In her early career, Katie gained wide-ranging litigation experience, defending clients in areas as varied as copyright infringement, commercial transportation, construction law, and product and premises liability, which she uses to help clients make critical decisions and to marshal broad, insightful, and diverse resources for their defense.
In her spare time, Katie enjoys reading, cooking new recipes, and spending time with her family, including her husband, their baby daughter, Matilda, and their Plott hound, Lucy. Katie is also passionate about helping North Carolina children by providing pro bono appellate representation for the Office of the Guardian ad Litem.
